Spring is here and so is National Introverts Week
But first...Happy Women's History Month! ♀️ Sorry for being so late. 🤦🏾♀️
A rant 😤
While searching Angela Bassett’s internet for images for Women’s History Month, I primarily came across images that predominantly showcased white women or racially ambiguous women. There were no easily obtained images of Black women, even though Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is still alive and well and walking around blessing us with her fabulous presence.
It’s disheartening that in the year of our Lord 2024, palatable history and any corresponding images are still centered on whiteness, and all other history is peripheral. I shouldn’t be thrusted down a rabbit hole of 5,000 search engine pages to find images of Black women for Women’s History Month. The MALEvolent shadowy figures that control the algorithm need to get their shit together.
A hushed shout out to my quiet warriors
This week is National Introverts Week, which author and podcast host Matthew Pollard founded. He has great information and resources on his website about navigating the business world as an introvert.
As an unapologetic introvert, I’m going to get this out of the way, there’s NOTHING wrong with us. We don’t need to be fixed. We don’t need to be coaxed out of our shell. We don’t need to assimilate to the extrovert ways of the world to thrive in it. Plain and simple introversion is a boundary to be respected, not a malady to be cured.
There’s no need for me to provide a listing of famous people who are introverts to give us credibility, we’re dope on our solitary own.
Remember early during the pandemic when we were told to shelter in place and self-isolate? Many extroverts clogged social media with posts like “Check on your extrovert friends, we are not OK!” 😩
But it was business as usual for the introverts. Just another day. Nothing new to see here. We were in our hushed element, minding our business and not (overtly) judging you for being unable to sit down for a minute during a global health crisis.
So, while the world has gone back to its hustle and bustle, exclaiming “WE OUTSIDE!”, and being loud and rambunctious again, I offer this to my fellow introverts this week and every week hereafter:
Don’t let an extrovert centric society discount the quiet brilliance that is you.
Oh yeah…Happy First Day O’ Spring! 🤧
Happy Introvert Week! How did you spend it besides in solitude? As o get older I’m beginning to enjoy time by myself HOWEVER, the extrovert in me wins 😆😆 I love meeting new people, new places, experiences etc. even when I’m being an “introvert” people are drawn to me so the extrovert in obliges the public 😂
Women are overlooked unless sex is involved yet we’re vital for survival. I’m going to step on some toes but that’s what I do! Hell men want to be women now! We’re strong (mentally, emotionally and spiritually), we’re nurturing we run the world! With all we do and have to offer we’re still disrespected. Although March is Women’s Month still very little is spoken of us in high regard with the exception of a mention here and there and on to the next! We have to take matters in our own hands! You’re doing just that with this blog! I look forward to your topics and fiery words!
Now on to the best part of the blog the picture of the stone figure holding behind the rock 😂😂😂😂the way I screamed when I saw it 😂😂😂😂 too cute! The figure is just tickled with itself hiding while the extroverts are doing what the do. It’s the grin on the face on the figure 😂😂😂 you pick awesome photos. Keep up the great work you do!
Have you heard of nappy.co? Great source of free stock images of Black and Brown people. You’re right; it shouldn’t be so hard to find images of Black women!
